Science Museum, London
The construction site was a large disused 1800's telegraph office, basement and court yard, which was originally designed and built as part of the natural history museum and was used as a storage area and receival yard. The building was located as a separate structure tucked around the back of the science and natural history museums. This project presented many complicated challenges due to the complexity of the basement and structural elements, encompassed temporary works to a historic building along with the site access and deliveries being next door to the school visitors entrance at one end and the museum in full operation divided by a screened barrier at the other and so a very busy project!
We worked very closely with both the client and Museum management teams ensuring implementation of noise suppression and reduction, tight site control and access along with allowing the daily operations of the Museum to continue unhindered whilst our works continued at full speed and to programme.
The scope of works for this project included the conversion of the existing site into a modern 'supporters centre' which primary use was to accommodate sponsors and as an entertaining area for VIP's.
Our engagement involved a very tight programme where her majesty the Queen was opening the completed project.
There was many phases and aspects of this project including an installation of a link between the buildings in addition to the creation of a lift shaft and lift, stairwells and alterations and finishing to the museum side of the works in a canteen, gift shop, and school / VIP's entrance and access routes, underpinning and major structural alterations, basement works along with finishing and installation of the very delicate and valuable display pieces.
Nucore were first brought in to undertake structural alterations. However, due to exceeding standards and our construction and management skills we was then approached to take on and continue the entire project working closely along side our main client CBRE.
We provided the entire package which included site management and construction.
